Hi & thank you for taking the time to visit my website.
My name is Nikki Thorpe & I am the artist behind An Armful Of Love Reborn Nursery.
I've been reborning since September 2006, previously under the name of Nikki's Reborn Nursery, but when another artist decided to use a similar name I decided change was in order. The new nursery name has been chosen by my partner of 16 years who has been a constant source of support & encouragement throughout, attending all the doll shows & fairs where I show & visit.
I also have 3 beautiful grown up children, Daniel, Ashley & Amy, who are wonderfully supportive of what I do, though find it somewhat strange that I would want to have babies in the house. Also my mum & step-dad, who are the reason behind the reborns.
I am a self taught artist & have always enjoyed art of any form & tried my hands at most, many of which I still do when I have the time. But when I developed a serious jaw problem 5 years ago, depression set in &, after my first major surgery in early 2006, my mum persuaded me to put my artistic talents to a different use & suggested 'painting real life babies' like the ones she had seen on ebay. After some months of researching the various materials available, sculpting artists etc, I created my very first reborn Amelia, who my mum now has on display in her bedroom.
I use only the very best materials available to buy, Genesis Heat Set Paints, virgin fibre Fill, Baby Fat Pellets, Ultra Fine Glass Beads & mohair from Slumberland Nursery. I am always in awe what this wonderful art produces & am always looking to try new techniques & with each baby created, I always strive for the ultimate in realism.
Thank you also to the many wonderful new friends I have made along the way & to my customers, old & new, without who I could not continue.
